I’m a Lecturer and Deputy Director of Postgraduate Research in the Department of Health and Social Care at the University of Essex. I’m also a visiting research faculty at the Berlin School of Business and Innovation and a visiting lecturer at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, Germany. I’m collaborating with talented researchers and academics from over 15 countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Japan, Chile, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Germany. In the last six years, I’ve led research projects in gerontology, healthcare, psychometrics, and epidemiology at the Africa Centre for Epidemiology, where I serve as Principal Research Fellow. I was a founding member of the Africa Centre for Epidemiology and served as the centre’s Executive Director until I joined the University of Essex. I'm a consultant to the National Health Service through various Trusts in Essex, United Kingdom.
I serve as Subject Editor (Public Health) with Social Sciences and Humanities Open (Elsevier) and as an Academic Editor with several apex journals. In the last three years, I’ve led editorial boards to edit books on ageing and sustainability for Springer. I'm the Editor-in-Chief for the books entitled "Morbidity Prevention in Ageing" and the "Handbook for Sustainability and Ageing" to be published in 2026 by Elsevier and Edward Elgar Publishing (UK), respectively. I am an internal and external doctoral examiner, examining PhD outputs in the University of Essex and from other countries. I review major grants, including UKRI healthy ageing grants.
I lead the International Sustainable Ageing Research Group (ISARG), a global network dedicated to policy-driven research in ageing and sustainability. I also lead the Nestor Asiamah Research Mentorship (NARM) programme, which includes postdoctoral mentees and professorial mentors from six countries. The programme is aimed at developing influential researchers in ageing and public health. I’m open to research collaboration and accepting applications from young research enthusiasts for the NARM.
I have a Master of Science (MSc) in Health Management from Uninettuno University in Italy and a PhD in Gerontology from the University of Portsmouth in the UK. I graduated with a distinction in both my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and I was the best graduate with a distinction in my undergraduate year group.
